Environmental Workshop Coming Soon – Register Today!

Master Builders of Iowa has partnered with Iowa Lead & Asbestos Safety / Iowa Air Quality to develop a 1 day workshop that will address the health hazards, code compliance, exposure levels and more on some of the most dangerous and deadly products on a construction project.

The key topics that will be addressed in this workshop include Lead, Asbestos, and Silica as well as the role that proper respirator use plays in keeping workers safe and healthy. For each of these topics, we will explore the health risks involved, air quality monitoring, recordkeeping, permissible exposure levels, medical surveillance, and much more.

In addition to great information to keep employees healthy, this workshop will provided individuals enrolled in the Master Builder Designation program with seven (7) Ecological credits toward the Master Builder Achievement Award.

Safety Dividend Paying Insurance Program

We want to remind our members to speak to your insurance agent about the insurance program that is available through United Fire Group (UFG). UFG has written and issued over 140 policies to MBI members and Construction Update Network subscribers, with over $6,311,000 written premium in the program as of June 1, 2017.  Contractors insured in the program are eligible to earn a safety group dividend for their property and casualty lines of insurance (excluding workers compensation).

Recruitment Tip: Why use social media?

One of the most discussed topics today is social media and it is for a good reason! Nearly all job candidates today are on at least one or more social media platforms. As an employer, you need take a multi-channel approach to reach and engage as many candidates as you can. Optimizing your social media presence is essential for your job search and can be quick and easy to manage.

MBI’s Labor Philosophy

Very few subjects in the business world, construction is no exception, evoke such passion as labor issues.  Constant conflict surrounds labor pursuits regardless of your choice to be union or non-union in some, or all, of your labor relationships.  There is conflict for union contractors during wage and contract negotiations with their labor counterparts.  The collective bargaining process is rarely easy, and more often very stressful, for both sides of the table.
