The Link below is a copy of the “Guideline for Iowa Supplemental General Conditions” containing suggested modifications to the new AIA Document A201 (2007) General Conditions of the Contract for Construction. This Guideline addresses local issues in Iowa and is the result of the collaborative efforts of the American Institute of Architects, Iowa Chapter (AIA Iowa), Master Builders of Iowa (MBI) and the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies of Iowa (ACECI). Representatives from each of these organizations are members of the Iowa Construction Industry Forum (ICIF), a joint industry council formed to resolve industry-related issues. This Guideline offers modifications to AIA Document A-201 (2007) that we believe are more reflective of construction practices in the state of Iowa. It remains the collective intention of all three organizations to continue to improve business relationships with our clients, and we have mutually agreed to issue this Guideline to building owners for their use in establishing contractual requirements for their construction projects. 

Guideline for Iowa Supplemental General Conditions 

What if owners, contractors, subcontractors, designers and sureties could all agree that a standard contract was fair to all parties?  For the first time in the industry, 22 leading construction associations have united to publish a consensus set of contract documents called ConsensusDOCS.  Upon ConsensusDOCS' release in 2007, AGC and COAA essentially folded their contract documents program into this consensus process.  ConsensusDOCS is the new choice in contract documents because all the parties were invited to the drafting table and had a full vote in deciding final contract terms.  All parties in a construction project deserve to work under a fair contract - one in which they have confidence because each of their respective associations had a true seat at the drafting table.  These contracts focus on yielding better project results and fewer disputes.  This unprecedented effort is the most significant industry development in the last 20 years.  The diverse buy-in amongst all parties is literally transforming the industry.
