Public Sector Claims Webinar

As more and more contractors look to public sector projects, the importance of knowing the details of Iowa Code Chapter 573 has never been greater.  Contractors and suppliers need to understand the notification and retainage requirements, as well as the claim and claim waiver provisions outline in Iowa law to protect themselves in the event parties to a construction contract are unable to provide payment for labor and/or materials furnished on the public project.

It is important to note that the provisions of Iowa Code Chapter 573 act somewhat like a “mechanics lien”.  However, there is no such thing as a mechanics lien on a public sector project.  In essence, a school can not be sold to help pay for subcontractor and suppliers’ work.  Rather public sector claims are established to ensure proper payment through the channels of construction contracts.

MBI is hosting a webinar that will focus on the issue of public sector claims and retainage as outlined in Iowa Code Chapter 573.  The information will help you better understand the nuisances of public sector procurement  and how Iowa law provides protection to those providing labor and materials on taxpayer funded construction projects.

Presented by: Attorney Steve Marso with Whitfield and Eddy.  Mr. Marso is very well versed in Chapter 573 and is often used as a legal resource by MBI.
