MBI-PAC Fundraiser Honoring Six Legislative Leaders is a Huge Success
On June 10th, the MBI-PAC sponsored a fundraising at the Wakonda Club in Des Moines honoring six Iowa House members for the work they did for Iowa’s construction industry this past legislative session. Our industry was challenged like no time before this past legislative session and through some very difficult times, these six individuals hung together to the benefit of Iowa’s construction industry. Their individual efforts helped defeat state mandated wages and benefits on public projects; contractor prequalification / disqualification on public projects; employee choice of doctor for workers’ compensation claims; and a multitude of other bad for business bills that would have adversely impacted Iowa’s construction industry.
The six House members honored during this event were:
Representative Brian Quirk (D-New Hampton)
Representative Dolores Mertz (D-Ottosen)
Representative Doris Kelley (D-Waterloo)
epresentative Geri Huser (D-Altoona)
Representative Larry Mareck (D-Riverside)
Representative McKinley Bailey (D-Webster City)
Nearly 60 MBI members and lobbyists representing other clients attended the event in which a total of over $60,000 in funds were raised “at the door”. (The “at the door” phrase covers those checks presented during the event.) Thousands of dollars of additional contributions were raised by the legislators who made personal invitations to individuals within their respective districts. Though these contributors never made it to the event, they forwarded checks to their respective legislator prior to and after the reception, in which these funds were still attributable to the event.
This event is just another component of MBI’s lobbying strategy. Because of the tumultuous legislative landscape facing Iowa’s construction industry, we can ill afford to only lobby during the legislative session. Our efforts need to be continuous and year-around.
All in all, it was a great opportunity for MBI to once again shine. Thank you to all who participated and contributed.
