MBI Announces New Alliance With Insurer

Master Builders of Iowa is pleased to announce an alliance with Midwest Builders Casualty, a mutual workers compensation insurance company from Lenexa, KS. A couple of years ago the MBI Board of Directors decided to incorporate a risk management services focus into its strategic plan. This started out with the hiring of a new staff member with a risk management background to offer members more opportunities to recognize and mitigate risks associated with their construction activities. It has now progressed to this involvement with Midwest Builders Casualty (MWBC).

Midwest Builders Casualty Mutual Company was formed in January 2008 solely to merge two self-insurers, Builders’ Association Self-Insurer’s Fund of Kansas and Builders Association Self-Insurers’ Fund of Missouri, both beginning business in 1983 as separate group self-insured workers’ compensation pools. MWBC maintains an AM Best rating of A- (excellent). Out of these beginnings from The AGC of Kansas City it has expanded to include other Kansas and Missouri contractor associations. Since it now desires to expand into Iowa it contacted MBI because of its status with Iowa contractors.

MWBC will offer its product solely through MBI-member insurance brokers beginning December 1, 2011. It will be available only to contractors and certain construction-related businesses. Since it specializes in workers compensation it has developed a strategy to control premium costs by making loss prevention/loss control the number one priority for its policyholders. This fits nicely into MBI’s mission as a “resource for improving member performance”.

MBI members who will be renewing their workers compensation insurance should consider what MWBC has to offer by asking an MBI broker to get a quote. Those brokers are Ahrold Fay Rosenberg-Des Moines, Arthur J. Gallagher-West Des Moines, Bearence Management-West Des Moines, Holmes Murphy-West Des Moines, LaMair Mulock Condon-West Des Moines, Reynolds & Reynolds-Des Moines, and TrueNorth-Cedar Rapids.
