Building a Better Iowa Event – Branstad for Governor
August 10, 2010 from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.
Leadership is what Iowa needs most right now and the Master Builders of Iowa and the MBI-PAC believe Governor Terry Branstad is the person for the job. The MBI-PAC is proud to be involved in the “Building a Better Iowa” Event, which is to the benefit of Governor Terry Branstad’s election efforts. The event will be held on August 10th from 4:30 to 7:30. Please CLICK HERE for event details and RSVP information.
This is an opportunity for all MBI members to get involved by contributing to a candidate that will not only push pro-growth policies, but also reject anti-business and anti-construction legislation. Now more than ever, Iowa needs strong leadership that can point policymakers in directions that encourage growth and investment, rather than pander to special interests like the trial lawyers, organized labor and environmentalists.
Governor Culver ‘s policies have adversely impacted Iowa’s construction industry and its overall business environment. His efforts to push anti-business legislation impacts Iowa’s ability to attract new companies, while hindering growth for those firms already established in Iowa. His spending spree has put burdens back on commercial property taxes and has had a detrimental impact on Iowa’s ability to meet future construction market development programs.
Governor Culver is touting his I-JOBS program as a job creator, which in the short-term probably has created and / or retained a fair number of construction jobs. But the question remains – at what cost? The $871 million I-JOBs program is being financed solely by the Rebuild Iowa Infrastructure Fund (RIIF), which is the state’s only mechanism for vertical infrastructure needs. As a result, the RIIF fund has been rendered a debt service tool. To make matter’s worse, Culver’s I-JOBs program is using the RIIF to finance asphalt overlays, bridge repair, broadband infrastructure and a number of other projects that have nothing to do with vertical infrastructure needs. All of which are being paid for the next 20 years by the funding mechanism in which vertical builders relies upon (i.e. the RIIF).
Please consider either joining your construction colleagues at the event or if you can’t attend, please consider a contribution to show your support!!
