Being Recognized by Just Doing the Same Thing
Being recognized as the Associated General Contractors of America’s “Chapter of the Year” came as quite a surprise. But it wasn’t because MBI was not deserving, but rather because the Association didn’t do anything differently or out of the ordinary in its commitment to the MBI member. The Association has always stayed true to its mission of being the “essential resource” to Iowa’s construction industry and its membership. At its core, being designated as the “Chapter of the Year” is a recognition of the MBI member. For if it was not for the strong membership involvement at all levels, the mere existence of MBI would not be possible, let alone being the recipient of any sort of award.
MBI is a collection of colleagues that spans the entire spectrum of the construction industry. Your Association includes general contractors from all regions of the state, specialty contractors of all various expertise, suppliers, risk managers, insurers, surety interests, legal counsels, designers, etc. – In essence, every facet of Iowa’s construction industry is represented in one form or another within MBI’s membership and all share in the goal of enhancing the industry.
But it is important to note that being an MBI member goes beyond just being part of an organization focused on improving the business environment for Iowa’s construction industry. MBI is different because of its members and their willingness to be a part of something much larger than a construction group. For instance, MBI members demonstrate their commitment through contributing to scholarship funds and volunteering on committees. Likewise, MBI members demonstrate their commitment through participation in leadership and educational programs, contributions to the MBI-PAC and being active grassroots participant in the public affairs program. MBI members are different because of their dedication to job site safety and their ongoing support of safety training programs. Finally, MBI members are different because of the collective sense of making things better for everyone involve in the construction process from the owner, to the contractor, to the designer, to the supplier, to the worker and to the eventual end user.
So here is to you – the MBI member – and your being named as the Chapter of the Year. But please, don’t do anything different. Just keep doing what you are doing.
