2012 marks the Master Builders of Iowa's 100 year anniversary! In recognition of the major milestones within the association, a celebration plan was developed by our Centennial Planning Task Force to recognize our members’ contributions to leadership and service for the commercial construction industry. Below is an overview of some of those events.
- Centennial Leadership Celebration
Over 350 MBI members celebrated 100 years of industry leadership on October 5th at the Iowa State Historical Building. Special guests included Governor Terry Branstad, Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds, City Council Member Christine Hensley, and Speaker of the House Kraig Paulsen.
MBI received special honors from the National AGC of America. AGC of America President Kris Young and AGC of America’s President & CEO Steve Sandherr presented MBI with a 100th Anniversary Certificate. MBI was presented with awards from AGC of Iowa; Merchants Bonding Co. and the Iowa Legislature for its contribution of 100 years of service to the industry. MBI Past Presidents and Chairman were recognized for their leadership and guidance of the Association throughout the years.
- LEGENDS IN CONCERT
The BUILD STRONG Concert Event
was held February 20, 2012 at
Veterans Memorial Auditorium
in Des Moines, Iowa. In conjunction with the Association’s 100th Annual Convention, the Master Builders of Iowa hosted the event of the year! MBI arranged to bring Las Vegas to Des Moines! The concert celebrated all of the contributions made by all segments of the industry that have built Iowa over the last 100 years. It was also an encouragement to BUILD STRONG for the next 100 years. This event was held in the newly renovated Iowa Events Center – Ballroom.

- Equipment of the Decades
Items from the past 100 years were displayed at the 2012 Iowa Construction Expo & MBI Convention to help celebrate MBI’s 100th Anniversary. Equipment, photos and more were showcased for all to see! Thanks to everyone who contributed!!

- A Dedication Day at MBI
On June 15, 2012, MBI held a special event for an exclusive group of MBI members, including the Board of Directors, Associate Council, MB EYE on the Future Grads, Committee Chairs and various guests. The event was dubbed A Dedication Day for MBI’s Leaders of Today & Tomorrow. The day began with a special keynote presentation by Jim Collins, business consultant, author and lecturer on the subject of company sustainability and growth at Veterans Memorial Auditorium in Des Moines. Following the presentation, the group attended a barbeque in the MBI parking lot. The day was topped off by a special dedication of the MBI Time Capsule and proclamation by Governor Terry Branstad and Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds. Governor Branstad proclaimed that June 15, 2012 was a day for Iowans to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the Master Builders of Iowa. MBI was recognized for 100 years of achievements in promoting a pro-business, pro-construction agenda by MBI.
