Build Iowa Award
John Gleeson
The Build Iowa Award was bestowed to Mr. John Gleeson at the MBI Leadership Breakfast held Wednesday, February 9, 2011 at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines, Iowa.
Inspired by the MBI motto, the Build Iowa Award is presented annually to the individual who best exemplifies the tenets of our organization: Skill, Responsibility and Integrity. The honorees are judged by the way in which they have performed both within the construction industry, and their communities.
John is the third generation in his company to receive the Build Iowa designation. His father and grandfather are also past recipients. He was instrumental in organizing what is now the Master Builders of Sioux City and very active in local labor relations issues and contract negotiations. He is a past member of the Board of Directors of MBI and a leader in the continuing development of the Construction Engineering Program at ISU.
John has also been extremely active in his local community. His involvement includes a variety of leadership positions including Board Member of the Iowa College Foundation;
Past President of the Siouxland Initiative (Economic Development Council); Chairman – United Way of Siouxland; Past President, Sioux City Chamber of Commerce; Member of the Board of Directors at St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center; Board of Director for Morningside College; Boys Club of Siouxland and a founding member of Girls, Inc. in Sioux City.
Some of the projects of which he is very proud and exemplify some of his best efforts include the Sioux City – City Hall, Progressive Processing in Dubuque, Iowa, the Mayfair Center and the Marina Inn and Conference Center developments in Sioux City.
Suffice it to say John Gleeson is always there to assist and volunteer with his leadership, time, talent and energy not only to his industry but to his community as well.

Dave Peters
The 2010 Build Iowa Award was bestowed to Mr. David Peters at the 2010 Build Iowa Awards Dinner held Monday, February 1, 2010 at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines, Iowa.
Inspired by the MBI motto, the Build Iowa Award is presented annually to the individual who best exemplifies the tenets of our organization: Skill, Responsibility and Integrity. The honorees are judged by the way in which they have performed both within the construction industry, and their communities.
Dave has a long history of volunteerism and leadership within the Association. He is a past Board member, Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Association in 1995. He has served on countless committees and task forces and is currently the Chair of MBI’s Convention and Travel Committee.
Dave is also extremely active in his community. His involvement includes a variety of leadership positions, including serving on the Advisory Board of the United Way, Wartburg College, the Waterloo Chamber of Commerce and the Waterloo Industrial Development Association. He is the current Chairman of the Covenant Medical Center Foundation. Dave also has extensive involvement with the University of Northern Iowa, serving in a variety of educational and advisory leadership positions, including the current chair of the Industrial Technology Advisory Board.
Three projects of which Dave is very proud and which exemplify some of his best efforts include the Walston-Hoover Football Stadium and Track Complex, Wartburg College; The Ridgeway West Office Building in Waterloo and the Richard O. Jacobson Human Performance Complex at UNI.

James R. Grabau
The 22nd Annual Build Iowa Award Program was held February 2, 2009 at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines, Iowa. Inspired by the Association's motto, the Build Iowa Award is presented annually to the individual who best exemplifies the tenets of our organization: Skill, Integrity & Responsibility. The nominations are judged by the way in which the candidates have performed both within the construction industryand their communities as well. This year's Build Iowa Award was presented to James R. Grabau, R.H. Grabau Construction, Inc., Boone, Iowa. Jim accepted this honor from General Ron Dardis, before an audience of his peers. We thank Jim for his many years of service to the Master Builders of Iowa.
Ron Sande
The 21st Annual Build Iowa Award Banquet was held February 8th, 2008 at the Polk County Convention Complex in Des Moines, Iowa. Inspired by the Association’s motto, the Build Iowa Award is presented annually to the individual who best exemplifies the tenets of our organization: Skill, Integrity & Responsibility. The nominations are judged by the way in which the candidates have performed both within the construction industry and their communities as well.
This year’s Build Iowa Award was presented to Ron Sande, Sande Construction & Supply, Humboldt, Iowa. Ron gave a very humbled and grateful acceptance speech to an audience of his peers.p; We thank Ron for his many years of service on the MBI Board of Directors as well as his chairing the Scholarship & Academic Committee for many terms.
